The event will be will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the Great Friends Meeting House in Newport RI from 11am-3pm. NewPort's 1st Annual Day of Renewal- A Celebration of African American Culture & Diversity It is a celebration of African American culture as expressed through art, music, food and community. This family friendly event was created to connect diverse people and to include all community members and families from across our region with local, national and international artists, performers,guest speakers, food vendors, area business owners, and our local media outlets. This community event is Free and ALL ARE WELCOME “This event is an opportunity for different people to come together, to learn something new about local history, while experiencing culture, food and music. We will find that we all have something in common. We want create an annual tradition that thecommunity looks forward to”- Niko Merritt, Founding Executive Director, Sankofa Community Connection.
