Children's Hour - Mullein

From 10:00AM to 11:00AM

Summer allergies bothering you? With so many allergens floating in the air, it’s no wonder we sometimes become congested. But nature has a fix for that, mullein! What’s mullein? Well, it’s a weed that grows all over North America but it wasn’t always that way. Come learn about invasive plants, and how the good ones were adopted into Native communities. We’ll pay particular attention to mullein so you can learn how to identify it, harvest it, dry it, store it, and use it next time you’re fighting those summer colds and flus. Have you ever considered what grows all around us? From food to technology, medicine to spirituality, nature can truly provide us with everything we need. Starting May 1st to the end of August at Children's Hour, we are focusing traditional uses of indigenous plants. Children’s Hour at Tomaquag Museum is a FREE public program held every Wednesday morning from 10:00-11:00 am for children of all ages. Each week features a different interactive lesson. Through music, dance, storytelling, crafts and Narragansett language, museum educators focus on Indigenous New England history, culture and art.Our facility's accessibility is consistent with ADA and Rhode Island law. We want to ensure that everyone who visits the museum has full access to the museum and all of our offerings regardless of mobility, vision, hearing, sensory, or learning variances. We welcome you to contact us if you have any questions or requests to make your visit as engaging as possible.Thank you to our sponsors from USDA Rural Development Grant and Rhode Island State Council for the Arts!
