Children's Hour - Green Corn Thanksgiving

From 10:00AM to 11:00AM

This weekend, the Narragansett Tribe will celebrate the Green Corn Thanksgiving, now known as the annual August Meeting Powwow in Charlestown, Rhode Island. Join us this week for our own celebration at Tomaquag Museum as we pay homage to one of our most important traditional foods, corn. We will talk about the origins of corn, hear a traditional story, explore the many traditional uses of corn at our sight and sensory table, and then make our own corn husk dolls to take home. Have you ever considered what grows all around us? From food to technology, medicine to spirituality, nature can truly provide us with everything we need. Starting May 1st to the end of August at Children's Hour, we are focusing traditional uses of indigenous plants. Our facility's accessibility is consistent with ADA and Rhode Island law. We want to ensure that everyone who visits the museum has full access to the museum and all of our offerings regardless of mobility, vision, hearing, sensory, or learning variances. We welcome you to contact us if you have any questions or requests to make your visit as engaging as possible. Thank you to our sponsors from USDA Rural Development Grant and Rhode Island State Council for the Arts! For more information, contact us at 401-491-9063 or email slarose@tomaquagmuseum.org.
